About Us

Bracknell Forest Borough Council is committed to reducing congestion and delivering sustainable transport solutions. To help us achieve this aim, we have created this website.

Bracknell Forest covers an area of 110 square kilometres with a population of around 110,000 people. Car ownership is double the national average, with 85% of households owning one or more cars, and a high proportion of people travel to work by car. Each day approximately 29,000 residents commute out of the Borough and 30,000 people commute in to the Borough to work.

This web site therefore aims to reduce the number of cars on the road by maximising the number of people in each car. It also provides information on public transport, and can help cyclists and walkers find someone to share their journey too. Using the site is absolutely free and your details will be treated confidentially at all times. So whether you own a car or not, this site can help you make a sustainable travel choice.

Environmental Information

Scientific evidence that climate change is directly caused by man is overwhelming.
Transport accounts for around 14% of global emissions.

We can all do our bit to reduce our travel related emissions;

  • Walk children to school - In the morning peak, 1 in 5 cars on the road is on the school run. The average school run journey in the car produces 800g of CO2.
  • Car share - if you car shared with a colleague to work just two days a week it would reduce your commuting emissions by 20%.
  • Try walking or cycling for shorter distances - in heavy traffic, the levels of pollution inside a car can be as much as 3 times higher than levels on the pavement.
